What Love Isn't

How the love we feel for each other is ever present. How in all these years (almost 44) I have rarely, if ever, questioned the love I have felt for him and how secure I have felt in his love for me.
We then started talking about how we never felt this in the love our children had professed for us. How there was always that element of insecurity, secrecy, betrayal, lies. How we could never feel its honesty and truth.
St Paul said "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
But what he did not say is this" Love is not insecure, it is not anxious, it is not disloyal. Love is not resentful, it does not lie, it does not cheat, it does not exclude or hurt others. Love does not make one question oneself, it does not make one question another. Love is not untruthful, love does not betray. Love does not dissolve when there is a problem. True love does not die.
Although it may be too late to add this to Corinthians, it is not too late for us to take heed of these important criteria.
My husband and I may not always be certain about what we want but we do know what we don't want. We don't want to feel insecure and anxious all the time We don't want to be lied to and betrayed. We don't want to be excluded. We don't want to be hurt. And finally, we don't want to love people who do not love us back in the way we all deserve to be loved.
May Peace Be With You!
